Kaidan had done up kind of a habit of not being around when things got really bad - being off-island half the time made it harder to get caught up in whatever it happened to be doing that week. This time, though? This time he wasn't so lucky. He'd actually just gotten dropped off at the causeway after another couple of days spent back home, and...
Well.
The first couple of feet down the causeway were normal. Then suddenly the sound of his footsteps fell away. The ensuing silence was downright eerie-- something he noticed immediately. So he took a step back, and there it was again: his feet against the ground. Step forward, bam. Gone.
He reached for his rifle, dropping into a more cautious pose. Right. Probably nothing going on besides the-- deafness? Whatever it was... but it helped to be cautious.
He'd agree with his original assessment about fifty feet later, when the creatures descended upon him. The street flared to life a moment later, with the blue glow of biotics getting flung around the premises. No sound of gunfire, though. Again: it was eerie.
