Parking Lot, Wednesday Evening

Off-island drinks with Dean... was starting to become a habit.

Not that Kaidan really minded. He considered the fact he had a couple of friends around here to be a blessing in and of itself - and it was another night he'd get to focus on something else rather than his personal ghosts. So he showed up to the parking lot pretty early, finding a place to wait by the Impala.

The sun was coming down earlier and earlier these days. Probably wouldn't be too long until winter really hit the place.

It was the usual shitty trucker bar that Dean had a sixth sense about finding. Where the beers were cheap and domestic and the food was... Edible.

Yeah.

Kaidan expressed his opinion about that one with a well-placed roll of his eyes. "Charming," he said.

"Your turn to pick the drink of choice."

"I could use a good scotch," Kaidan said, stepping out of the car.

"Might want to lower some expectations," Dean replied, looking at the Coors sign in the window.

"Well, I'm not drinking Coors," Kaidan said. "Might as well be slamming back water."

"If we're lucky, they might have some Maker's Mark." Maybe. But that was the joy of the place!

"You take me to the best places," Kaidan said dryly. "C'mon. Let's see how bad the local is."

Dean snorted, locking up his baby in case someone had any bright ideas about breaking into a classic car. "Hey, next time you can pick the place," he said, coming around to catch up with Kaidan. "Maybe one of those bars with the colorful cocktails."

"Maybe next time I'll drag you to the Citadel," Kaidan said, striding into the bar. "We'll see how you can hold your ryncol."

It was smokey and dark and did not smell particularly clean, but it was a bar.

"That some kind of vodka?"

"Krogan liquor," Kaidan said, sliding into a seat. "Pretty hard on the stomach if you don't have a second one. Stomach, I mean."

"It's not poison," Kaidan said. "It's just really strong alcohol."

And Kaidan was not above appealing to Dean's ego.
